IT act provides two ways to file your income tax return and also provides different forms for different category of person. Before filing your ITR you need to first decide which provision of IT act is applicable to you.
There two ways of filing your income tax return;
- Submitted electronically
- Submitted in paper format
IT act specify certain category of person to file there IT return in electronic format. Others for which electronic filing is not mandatory can file there return in paper format.
Following persons are required to file IT return electronically;
- A Private Or A Public Limited company registered in India
- A salaried person or individuals having taxable income more than Rs. 5, 00,000
- A Hindu Undivided Family having taxable income more than Rs. 5, 00,000
- A resident individual having assets located outside India
- A resident Hindu Undivided Family having assets located outside India or signing authority in any account located outside India
- When the books of accounts are required to be audited under section 44AB of IT act, 1961.
Even though its mandatory for certain category of persons to file there ITR online, IT department has given an option for other assessee to file IT return electronically even though they are not liable to do so.
Persons other than those discussed above can file there return in paper format with the nearest IT department.
Electronic Returns can be filled with digital signature or without digital signature. If the return has filled with digital signature then, the acknowledgement generated after filing the return is not required to be sent to IT department CPC Office, Bangalore.
If the IT return has not signed electronically then the ITR-V generated after filing the return need to be sent to CPC, Bangalore office in paper format after your signature in the verification section. The ITR-V has to be sent by ordinary post (not by any courier or registered post) within 120 days from the date of uploading the electronic return or within the extended time.
