How online efiling of your income tax return works

How online efilling of your income tax return worksEfiling of your income tax is mandatory for those individual whose income during the previous year increases Rs. 5, 00,000. For efiling of your income tax return you can either avail the services of one of the e-return intermediaries or free online services available at IT web site.

Followings are the popular efiling intermediary who provides online efiling services;

  1. Taxsmile.com
  2. Taxshax.com
  3. MyITreturn.com
  4. Cleartax.in
  5. Taxspanner.com

Before online efiling you need to choose the ITR form available to download at income tax website. You need to choose the ITR Form according to the income you generate and the type of business you do.

For online efiling you need to select the excel version of the ITR form and fill up all required field before efiling. You need to validate each worksheet and click on calculate tax button to let the form calculate your tax. Generate an XML file from the ITR form (generating xml file option is available in the form). 

Log in to your income tax efiling website with your PAN number, password and date of birth. Choose the upload your return option available there and select the correct assessment year for filling your return from the drop down available. If you have not registered yet then you need to get yourself register first before uploading your income tax return. Registration can be done with the help of PAN number, email id etc.

After uploading the XML file you need to take a print out of the acknowledgement generated out of it and send it to CPC, Bangalore office with your signature on verification section of the acknowledgement you received. You need to send the ITR V (acknowledgment) within 120 days of efiling your income tax return by ordinary post only.

If you have selected any online services of efiling intermediary then each of them have there own procedure of filling so you need to make sure that your income tax return has been filed in the way income tax department wants it to happen.
